EOMMEX was established as a private law legal entity by Law 707/1977, operating under the auspices of Greek Ministry of Development. Recently, by means of Presidential Decree 159/97, issued in implementation of Law 2414/96, EOMMEX was transformed into a Societe Anonyme with a public benefit character which operates in the public interest on the basis of private economy rules and with the goal of the advancement, promotion and support of the development of small to medium-sized enterprises in Greece in the secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy within the framework of the applicable government policy using every appropriate means. The developmental work of EOMMEX, which has been judged successful and universally recognised, supporting the development of approximately 80,000 SMEs out of 120,000 SMEs operating in Greece in the manufacturing sector, may be characterised in many cases as innovative and can demonstrate successful applications.

EOMMEX’s mission is an active contribution to the shaping of a policy on SMEs, the design, promotion, implementation and co-ordination of institutions, measures and actions for the creation and development of small and medium-sized enterprises within the framework of government policy. As part of strategic goals the support for design of the National Policy for SMEs, promotion of support measures for SMEs and development of the network of support structures for SMEs can be named. EOMMEX employs an executive staff of 246 experts well versed in the elaboration and implementation of programmes for the modernisation and Technological development of SMEs. EOMMEX is nominated the SMEs NATIONAL CONTACT POINT – CRAFT 6th FP by General Secretary for Research & Technology / Ministry of Development.
