Partner 8: The Icelandic Centre for Research (RANNIS) / Iceland

RANNIS reports to the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and its mission is to provide professional assistance in the preparation and implementation of science and technology policy in Iceland. RANNIS operates the Icelandic financial support system for research and technical development and co-ordinates and promotes Icelandic participation in international co-operation in science and technology.

From 1 January 2004, RANNIS manages the newly created Technical Development Fund on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and will participate in EraSME on that basis. The fund operates in general as a competitive fund through which firms, research institutes and universities have the possibility of financing projects that support technological development and innovation. It supports spin-off ventures and innovative firms.

RANNIS has a great experience in managing programmes and funds supporting SME research and innovation such as the Research Fund and the U&U program (1999-2004) supporting information technology and environmental research.
